Things to do in the area

Since we're getting married over a long weekend, we thought it might be a good idea to give out-of-towners an idea of other things to do in the area. Of course, if you'd prefer to spend all of your time hanging out with us, that'd be great too.

Hawk Mountain:

Hawk Mountain is a conservation organization that protects and studies birds of prey. They have a visitor's center and hiking trails with stunning views. There is a $5 admission fee for non-members.

Rodale:

The Rodale Institute has been working to promote organic agriculture for over 50 years. They have a Visitor Center and offer regular tours.

Hikes:

There are a ton of hiking trails in the Kempton area, but the best ones are the trails that take you to the Pinnacle. The Pinnacle is the highest peak in the area, and there is an amazing rock outcropping at the top with a spectacular view. You'll be able to see it from Penny's barn. It kinda looks like this at the top:

Hex Sign Tour

This part of Pennsylvania is famous for its Hex Signs, a style of folk art that's been practiced in the area for hundreds of years. Hex signs typically consist of geometric stars (and other patterns) that are painted on the sides of barns for good luck.

You're sure to notice many hex signs as you drive around the area, and those interested in seeing some of the best can find a pdf brochure for a self-guided hex sign tour here.
